British University Vietnam is on track to open in late 2009 – Visit of Sir Graeme Davies – Vice Chancellor of the University of London and President of British University Vietnam

Hanoi – world renowned figure in higher education visits Vietnam

The newly appointed President of the British University Vietnam is Sir Graeme Davies, BEng, PhD, MA, ScD, FREng, FRSE, who is currently the Vice-Chancellor of the University of London. The Vice-Chancellor is the principal officer of the University and is responsible for all the organization and business operation of the University. As the President, Sir Graeme will help the new University in Vietnam to set quality standards and strategic direction and will serve to act as an ambassador for the University at the highest level.

The British University Vietnam Project, previously known as Apollo University Project, was launched on 08/09/2008 in the presence of HRH Prince Andrew from the UK and Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan. This is the first 100% foreign owned university that is licensed in Vietnam to deliver British higher education degrees.

The visit to Vietnam of Sir Graeme Davies reaffirms the standing of the project in spite of the impacts of the global and regional economic crisis. Despite this economic downturn the university will open as planned. With the recent arrival in Hanoi of the Director, Tom Walsh FRGS, the University is expected to open by the end of this year.

The University has identified the location for its city campus which is scheduled to open in Hanoi this November. In 2009, the University will offer three programmes: B.A. Accounting and Finance, B.A. of International Business Management and B.Sc. of Banking and Finance. The tuition fee ranges from 19,000-21,000 USD depending on the course. There is no entrance exam required. All applicants must meet the minimum English and academic requirements (in general 6.0 IELTS or equivalent and GPA 6.5) of the respective degree programme. There will be a number of scholarships for talented students, which will be widely announced together with the detailed application information in July 2009.
