7.1 Fines and Penalties

Fines and penalties for overdue, lost or damaged items

  • A fine is charged if items are returned late. Items must be returned no later than 15 minutes before the library closes.
  • You are not permitted to borrow or renew any LRC item until your fines or replacement fees have been paid.
  • Charges for items returned late: 5,000VND/day/overdue item.
  • If an item has not been returned within 60 days of the due date, it will be considered to be “LOST BOOK” and the LRC user will be responsible for the full replacement cost of the item plus an administrative fee of VND 100, 000. Staff and students will not be eligible to borrow, renew or place a reservation until all costs have been paid in full.
  • If an item is returned damaged to LRC, LRC staff will assess the extent of the damage and apply the fine accordingly.
  • If the damage is minimal and item can be repaired, there will be no charge.
  • If item can be repaired but involves a cost, the administrative fee of VND 100,000 will be applied.
  • If item cannot be repaired, the replacement fee plus administrative fee will be applied.

How fines are calculated

  • For all LRC items, fines are accumulated for each day an item is overdue by (fines aren’t charged on days when LRC closes)
  • A fine stops accumulating when you either return overdue item or pay for the overdue fine. We calculate how long the item is overdue by and apply the appropriate fine to your account. This fine is then known as “outstanding fine”.

Buying a replacement copy yourself

  • If you choose to buy a replacement copy yourself, you are advised to contact LRA first to obtain the full book details to ensure that you purchase the correct version (A VND 100,000 administration charge still applies)
  • LRC will only accept the same copy as the lost copy or the latest copy of the same title and same author.
  • Note: In case you find the original copy and paid or buy a replacement copy, you are still NOT entitled to be refunded.
